We must listen to children and youth, understand their concerns, and provide them with accurate information about the risks and consequences of drug abuse. Empowering young people with knowledge and skills will enable them to make informed decisions and resist the pressures of drug use.
Prevention is the key to addressing drug abuse and illicit trafficking. We must invest in prevention programs that focus on education, awareness-raising, and community engagement. By promoting healthy lifestyles, providing support to vulnerable populations, and strengthening social networks, we can create environments that discourage drug abuse and foster resilience.

Drugabuseisaproblemthatcanbeprevented,treatedandcontrolled.Whileeffortsmustbesteppeduptoreducesupply--byhelpinggrowersofillicitcropsfindviablelicitalternatives,andensuringthatlawenforcementagenciescontinuetheirgoodworkinseizingdrugs--thegreatestchallengeinglobaldrugcontrolisreducingdemand.Withlessdemand,therewouldbelessneedforsupply,andfewerincentivesforcriminalstotrafficdrugs.
Combatingdrugabuseisacollectiveeffort.Itrequirespoliticalleadershipandsufficientresources--particularlyformoreand
bettertreatmentfacilities.Itrequirestheengagementofparentsandteachers,aswellashealthcareandsocialworkers.Itrequiresthemediaandcriminaljusticeofficialstoplaytheirpart.
Allwalksoflifemustjoinforcesanddevotespecialattentiontothevulnerable:tothosewhoarevulnerabletotakingdrugsbecauseoftheirpersonalorfamilysituation,andtothosewhoarevulnerablebecausetheytakedrugs.Ourmissionistoenablethemtotakecontroloftheirlives,ratherthanallowingtheirlivestobecontrolledbydrugs.Thatmeansgivingyoungpeoplesoundguidance,employmentopportunities,andthechancetobeinvolvedinactivitiesthathelporganizelifeandgiveitmeaningandvalue.Itmeanssupportingparents'effortstoprovideloveandleadership.Itmeansreachingouttomarginalizedgroupsandensuringtheyreceivethecaretheyneedtocopewithbehavioural,psychologicalormedicalproblems.Itmeansprovidingreasonstohope.
