Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Timmy who lived in a small village in England. Timmy loved to explore the woods near his house and often went on adventures with his dog, Max. One day, as they were walking through the forest, they stumbled upon a magical talking tree.

The tree introduced itself as Old Oak and told Timmy and Max that it had the power to grant one wish to anyone who could solve its riddle. Excited by the prospect of making a wish, Timmy eagerly listened to the riddle.

"I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have nobody, but I come alive with the wind. What am I?" the tree asked.

Timmy thought for a moment before answering confidently, "An echo!"

Old Oak chuckled and granted Timmy his wish. Timmy wished for all the animals in the forest to have a warm and cozy home for the winter. The next day, Timmy woke up to find all the animals happily settled in their new homes, thanks to Old Oak's magic.

From that day on, Timmy and Max visited Old Oak often, listening to its stories and solving riddles together. They had many more adventures in the forest, but none were as magical as the day they met the talking tree.

And so, Timmy and Max lived happily ever after, knowing that kindness and cleverness can lead to the most wonderful of adventures.

After viewing a particularly fine performance, one student wrote: "The play was so real, I thought I was actually sitting on my couch at home, watching it on television."

The hired man agreed. The farm’s wife brought in some cold meat and fried potatoes, and the two men ate again.

When they had finished, the cheap farmer said, “While we’re still at the table, let’s have supper too.” They were now served steak, boiled potatoes and mixed vegetables, and they ate once more.

The more one tries to cover up, the better-known it will become.

During the Spring and Autumn Period (春秋时期,770-476 BC), there lived a man named Hei Gung, who worked for the government of the kingdom of Ju. Hei Gung once secretly gave apiece of Ju's territory to the kingdom of Lu, in the hopes that Lu would take him in.

Thinking that no one knew what he had done, he very quietly moved to Lu, never dreaming that Lu would record this incident in great detail.

Later, when the people of Ju realized that Hei Gung had moved, they began to ask about that, and only then they learnt of the great dishonor he had brought to his country.

Hei Gung never imagined that so many people would find out about this thing which he didn't want anyone to know.

Today, this idiom is often used in situations in which a person tries to cover up a thing which he has done, but in doing so only makes his wrongdoing more obvious.

英文中若要表达“欲盖弥彰”的意思,可以用短语“The more one tries to cover up, the better-known it will become.”。
