Qu Yuan was a famous poet and statesman from ancient China. He lived during the Warring States period and was known for his patriotism and love for his country. However, his ideas were not always accepted by the ruling class, and he was eventually exiled.
During his exile, Qu Yuan wrote many poems expressing his love for his country and his sorrow for its decline. One of his most famous poems is called "Li Sao" or "The Lament". In this poem, Qu Yuan expressed his feelings of sadness and despair, comparing himself to a fallen leaf drifting in the wind.
When Qu Yuan learned that his country had been invaded by a neighboring state, he was filled with grief. In despair, he drowned himself in the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. The local people, who admired Qu Yuan, rushed to the river in their boats to try and save him.
