Traveling to Beijing

Last summer, I had the opportunity to travel to Beijing, the capital city of China. It was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to explore the rich history and culture of this ancient city.

One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall is one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, and it stretches over 13,000 miles across China. I was in awe of its grandeur and the breathtaking views it offered. Climbing the steep steps and walking along the wall was a challenging but rewarding experience. It made me appreciate the incredible engineering and the determination of the ancient Chinese people who built it.

Another must-visit attraction in Beijing is the Forbidden City. This imperial palace complex was home to the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for nearly 500 years. Walking through the vast courtyards and intricate halls, I felt like I had stepped back in time. The architecture and intricate details of the buildings were simply mesmerizing. It was fascinating to learn about the history and the significance of each section of the Forbidden City.

Of course, no trip to Beijing would be complete without trying the local cuisine. I indulged in Peking duck, a famous dish originating from Beijing. The crispy skin and succulent meat of the duck were absolutely delicious. I also tried other traditional dishes such as Beijing noodles and dumplings, which were equally mouthwatering. Exploring the local food scene was a delightful adventure in itself.

During my time in Beijing, I also had the chance to visit the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, and the Summer Palace. Each of these attractions showcased different aspects of Chinese history and culture, leaving me with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the country.

Overall, my trip to Beijing was a truly enriching experience. It allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant culture and history of China. I am grateful for the opportunity to have visited such a remarkable city and I hope to return one day to explore even more.

Exploring the Natural Beauty of New Zealand

Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to New Zealand, a country known for its breathtaking landscapes and natural beauty. It was a journey that left me in awe of the wonders of nature and the diversity of this small island nation.

One of the highlights of my trip was exploring the Fiordland National Park, located in the southwest of the South Island. The park is home to Milford Sound, one of the most stunning fjords in the world. As I cruised through the deep blue waters, surrounded by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls, I couldn't help but feel a sense of tranquility and appreciation for the untouched beauty of this place. The serenity of the fjord was truly a sight to behold.

I also had the opportunity to visit the Franz Josef Glacier, a unique natural wonder located on the West Coast of the South Island. As I hiked through the icy terrain, I marveled at the blue hues of the glacier and the stunning ice formations. It was a humbling experience to witness the power of nature and to be surrounded by such pristine beauty.

Another memorable part of my trip was visiting the geothermal wonders of Rotorua. The city is known for its bubbling mud pools, geysers, and hot springs. The sight of the boiling mud and the steam rising from the ground was both fascinating and surreal. I also had the chance to relax in one of the many natural hot springs, which was a rejuvenating experience after a day of exploring.

In addition to the natural wonders, I also had the opportunity to learn about the indigenous Maori culture. I attended a traditional Maori cultural performance, which included songs, dances, and storytelling. It was a privilege to witness the preservation of their rich traditions and to gain a deeper understanding of their history and way of life.

New Zealand is truly a paradise for nature lovers. From the majestic mountains and pristine lakes to the stunning coastlines and lush forests, there is something for everyone to explore and appreciate. My trip to New Zealand was a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural world and cherishing the beauty that surrounds us.

In conclusion, my journey through New Zealand was a transformative experience. The natural beauty and diverse landscapes left a lasting impression on me. I am grateful for the opportunity to have explored this incredible country and I hope to return one day to discover even more of its wonders.

I like to travel to different places, I can see the beautiful scenery and get to know the different cultures. My friends and I always travel together, we make many plans in advance. But the plans will always be interrupted by all kinds of unexpected incidents, like the bad weather, the holiday being cancelled, so we have to spend another time to wait for the trip. Traveling alone can ignore these problems, I can go to travel whenever I want, I just need to pick up my backpack, and then buy the ticket. It is so free, I don’t have to wait for others, I can go to the places I want to. Traveling alone is good.

England is the best place I’ve ever been. Everything is so beautiful. I spent about one and a half days on the plane. When I arrived at Heathrow Airport in London, it was evening and the GREat trip was starting. there were many places I v is ited in London, like Big Ben, Westminster, the Tower of London…….those are very famous.

Most of the time in the afternoon, my parents and I sat and walked in the park. Have you seen“Notting Hill”before? the story in the movie happens in London. the Brit is h museum, Musee de Louver and the Metropolitan Museum of art are the three largest museums in the world. I’ve v is ited two of them. then we left London for Cambridge, Windsor Castle, York and Stonehenge. they were excellent . Every small town has a h is tory of one or two thousand years. there was an art festival called“Tutto”in Edinburgh, and there were many street players who their lives to the shows. then we went to northern Scotland. It was dangerous! then we went back to London, and sat in the park, and the fat geese were so cute. That journey was the nicest memory of my life. I won’t forget it.

the past ages of man have all ben carefully labeled by anthropologists. descriptions like ‘palaeolithic man’, ‘neolithic man’, etc., neatly sum up whole periods. when the time comes for anthropologists to turn their attention to the twentieth century, they will surely choose the label ‘legless man’. histories of the time will go something like this: ‘in the twentieth century, people forgot how to use their legs. men and women moved about in cars, buses and trains from a very early age. there were lifts and escalators in all large buildings to prevent people from walking. this situation was forced upon earth-dwellers of that time because of their extraordinary way of life. in those days, people thought nothing of traveling hundreds of miles each day. but the surprising thing is that they didn’t use their legs even when they went on holiday. they built cable railways, ski-lifts and roads to the top of every huge mountain. all the beauty spots on earth were marred by the presence of large car parks.’

the future history books might also record that we were deprived of the use of our eyes. in our hurry to get from one place to another, we failed to see anything on the way. air travel gives you a bird’s-eye view of the world- or even less if the wing of the aircraft happens to get in your way. when you travel by car or train a blurred image of the countryside constantly smears with the urge to go on and on: they never want to stop. it is the lure of the great motorways, or what? and as for sea travel, it hardly deserves mention. it is perfectly summed up in the words of the old song: ‘i joined the navy to see the world, and what did i see? i saw the sea.’ the typical twentieth-century traveler is the man who always say ‘i’ve been there,’ you mention the re

motest, most evocative place-names in the world like el dorado, kabul, irkutsk and someone is bound to say ‘i’ve been there’—meaning, ‘i drove through it at 100 miles an hour on the way to somewhere else.’

when you travel at high speeds, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time looking forward to arriving at some other place. but actual arrival, when it is achieved, is meaningless. you want to move on again. by traveling like this, you suspend all experience; the present ceases to be a reality: you might just as well be dead. the traveler on foot, on the other hand, lives constantly in the present. for him traveling and arrving are one and the same thing: he arrives somewhere with every step he makes. he experiences the present moment with his eyes, his ears and the whole of his body. at the end of his journey he feels a delicious physical weariness. he knows that sound, satisfying sleep will be his: the just reward of all true travelers.

Directions: For this part you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Which Mode of Travel Do You like? You should write no less than 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

  2. 有的人喜欢自己独立行动(travelling on ones own)

With the general standard of living improving and the working week becoming shorter, more and more people are able to make a holiday trip to places of interest. While many like to join package tours fro convenience, I prefer to travel on my own.

I like travelling on may own not only because it costs much less but because it gives a great degree of independence and freedom. Travelling on my own, Im my own boss; and can decide when to start on my way, where to linger a little longer and which spot can be skipped over to save energy or time for another spot. I can always adjust my plan. On the contrary, in a package tour youre deprived of as much freedom as in a military base. At the sound of the whistle, you have to jump up from a sound sleep and, with heavy-lidded eyes, hurry to the gathering place where you are collected and counted to board a coach. At the sight of the little flag waving, you must immediately take yourself away from the scenes you are marveling at and follow the guide whose sole interest is to cover all spots according to him strict schedule, regardless of the weather or your health condition.

True, you may encounter inconveniences if you travel inpidually, for instance, getting accommodations for the night and finding a place for meals. But nothing can be compared with the freedom which is vital to a person who takes a holiday trip mainly to escape from constraints of his routine life.
