写节日的英语作文 篇一

The Celebration of Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday in China. It is celebrated on the first day of the lunar calendar, which usually falls between January 21 and February 20. The festival lasts for 15 days and is marked by various customs and traditions.

The preparation for Chinese New Year starts well in advance. People clean their houses thoroughly to sweep away bad luck and make room for good fortune. They decorate their homes with red lanterns and couplets, which are written with auspicious phrases. The color red is considered lucky and is believed to scare away evil spirits. Chinese families also buy new clothes and exchange gifts during this time.

On New Year's Eve, families gather for a reunion dinner. This meal is considered the most important of the year and often includes various dishes with symbolic meanings. For example, dumplings are a common dish as they resemble ancient Chinese gold or silver ingots and symbolize wealth and prosperity. After the dinner, families stay up late and watch the annual Spring Festival Gala on television, which features music, dance, and comedy performances.

The highlight of Chinese New Year is the lion and dragon dances. These performances are believed to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits. People also set off fireworks and firecrackers to scare away demons and ensure a prosperous year ahead. The streets are filled with lively parades and colorful decorations during this time.

During the festival, children receive red envelopes filled with money from their elders. This tradition, called "hongbao," symbolizes good luck for the upcoming year. It is also common to visit relatives and friends during Chinese New Year, exchanging greetings and well wishes.

In conclusion, Chinese New Year is a time of joy, reunion, and celebration. It is a time when families come together, reflect on the past year, and welcome the new year with hope and optimism. The customs and traditions associated with this festival are deeply rooted in Chinese culture and continue to be cherished and passed down through generations.

The Celebration of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November. It is a time for people to give thanks for the blessings and harvest of the past year and to spend quality time with family and friends.

The history of Thanksgiving dates back to 1621 when the Pilgrims, early European settlers in America, held a feast to thank the Native Americans for their help in surviving their first harsh winter. Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated with a traditional meal that typically includes roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.

One of the main customs of Thanksgiving is the act of giving thanks. Many families go around the dinner table and express what they are grateful for. It is a time to appreciate the blessings in life, such as good health, loving relationships, and successful achievements. Thanksgiving is also a time to remember those who are less fortunate and to offer help and support to those in need.

Another popular tradition of Thanksgiving is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This annual parade in New York City features giant helium balloons, floats, marching bands, and performances. It is watched by millions of people both in person and on television. The parade signals the start of the holiday season and brings joy and excitement to people of all ages.

In recent years, Black Friday has become synonymous with Thanksgiving. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Many stores offer significant discounts and promotions, attracting millions of shoppers looking for bargains. While some people enjoy the thrill of shopping on Black Friday, others prefer to spend the day relaxing with family and avoiding the crowds.

Overall, Thanksgiving is a time of reflection, gratitude, and togetherness. It is a day when people pause to appreciate their blessings and express their thanks. Whether it is through a traditional meal, a parade, or acts of kindness, Thanksgiving brings people closer and reminds us of the importance of gratitude and giving back.
