My Memorable Trip to New York City

Last summer, I had the opportunity to visit the vibrant city of New York. It was an unforgettable experience that left me with lasting memories. From the iconic landmarks to the diverse culture, there were so many things to see and do in the Big Apple.

One of the highlights of my trip was visiting Times Square. The dazzling lights and bustling crowds truly made me feel like I was in the heart of the city. The billboards and advertisements were larger than life, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as I stood in the midst of the famous square.

Another unforgettable experience was exploring Central Park. This sprawling oasis in the middle of the city was the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle. I enjoyed strolling along the pathways, admiring the beautiful landscapes and watching people engage in various activities. It was a peaceful and serene haven amidst the chaos of the city.

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a visit to the Statue of Liberty. As I stood in front of this iconic symbol of freedom, I couldn't help but be amazed by its grandeur and significance. Taking a ferry ride to Liberty Island and climbing to the top of the statue provided a breathtaking view of the city skyline.

In addition to the famous landmarks, I also immersed myself in the city's vibrant culture. I visited art galleries, watched Broadway shows, and indulged in a variety of cuisines. The city's diversity was evident in its people, architecture, and food. It was a melting pot of different cultures and traditions, and I felt fortunate to be able to experience it firsthand.

Overall, my trip to New York City was an incredible adventure. The city's energy and vibrancy were contagious, and I couldn't help but get caught up in the excitement. From Times Square to Central Park, every moment was filled with wonder and awe. It was a trip that I will cherish forever, and I can't wait to return to the Big Apple someday.

The coral reefs were teeming with life, with schools of fish swimming gracefully around me. It was like entering a whole new world beneath the surface.

During the trip, I also had the chance to go scuba diving. Descending into the depths of the reef, I was spellbound by the underwater landscape. The vibrant colors, intricate coral formations, and the incredible diversity of marine life were beyond anything I had ever imagined. It was a truly immersive experience that allowed me to appreciate the wonders of the ocean.

One of the highlights of the trip was encountering sea turtles in their natural habitat. These gentle creatures gracefully swam alongside me, seemingly undisturbed by my presence. Watching them glide through the water was a humbling experience, reminding me of the importance of protecting these fragile ecosystems.

In addition to the underwater adventures, I also explored the islands surrounding the Great Barrier Reef. The white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters were picture-perfect, and I spent hours relaxing and soaking up the sun. It was a peaceful and serene setting that provided a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Visiting the Great Barrier Reef was not only an opportunity to witness its beauty but also to learn about the importance of conservation. It was a reminder of the need to preserve and protect our natural resources for future generations.

In conclusion, my trip to the Great Barrier Reef was a truly remarkable experience. From snorkeling among the coral reefs to encountering sea turtles, every moment was filled with wonder and amazement.

I like to travel to different places, I can see the beautiful scenery and get to know the different cultures. My friends and I always travel together, we make many plans in advance. But the plans will always be interrupted by all kinds of unexpected incidents, like the bad weather, the holiday being cancelled, so we have to spend another time to wait for the trip. Traveling alone can ignore these problems, I can go to travel whenever I want, I just need to pick up my backpack, and then buy the ticket. It is so free, I don’t have to wait for others, I can go to the places I want to. Traveling alone is good.

England is the best place I’ve ever been. Everything is so beautiful. I spent about one and a half days on the plane. When I arrived at Heathrow Airport in London, it was evening and the GREat trip was starting. there were many places I v is ited in London, like Big Ben, Westminster, the Tower of London…….those are very famous.

Most of the time in the afternoon, my parents and I sat and walked in the park. Have you seen“Notting Hill”before? the story in the movie happens in London. the Brit is h museum, Musee de Louver and the Metropolitan Museum of art are the three largest museums in the world. I’ve v is ited two of them. then we left London for Cambridge, Windsor Castle, York and Stonehenge. they were excellent . Every small town has a h is tory of one or two thousand years. there was an art festival called“Tutto”in Edinburgh, and there were many street players who their lives to the shows. then we went to northern Scotland. It was dangerous! then we went back to London, and sat in the park, and the fat geese were so cute. That journey was the nicest memory of my life. I won’t forget it.

the past ages of man have all ben carefully labeled by anthropologists. descriptions like ‘palaeolithic man’, ‘neolithic man’, etc., neatly sum up whole periods. when the time comes for anthropologists to turn their attention to the twentieth century, they will surely choose the label ‘legless man’. histories of the time will go something like this: ‘in the twentieth century, people forgot how to use their legs. men and women moved about in cars, buses and trains from a very early age. there were lifts and escalators in all large buildings to prevent people from walking. this situation was forced upon earth-dwellers of that time because of their extraordinary way of life. in those days, people thought nothing of traveling hundreds of miles each day. but the surprising thing is that they didn’t use their legs even when they went on holiday. they built cable railways, ski-lifts and roads to the top of every huge mountain. all the beauty spots on earth were marred by the presence of large car parks.’

the future history books might also record that we were deprived of the use of our eyes. in our hurry to get from one place to another, we failed to see anything on the way. air travel gives you a bird’s-eye view of the world- or even less if the wing of the aircraft happens to get in your way. when you travel by car or train a blurred image of the countryside constantly smears with the urge to go on and on: they never want to stop. it is the lure of the great motorways, or what? and as for sea travel, it hardly deserves mention. it is perfectly summed up in the words of the old song: ‘i joined the navy to see the world, and what did i see? i saw the sea.’ the typical twentieth-century traveler is the man who always say ‘i’ve been there,’ you mention the remotest, most evocative place-names in the world like el dorado, kabul, irkutsk and someone is bound to say ‘i’ve been there’—meaning, ‘i drove through it at 100 miles an hour on the way to somewhere else.’

when you travel at high speeds, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time looking forward to arriving at some other place. but actual arrival, when it is achieved, is meaningless. you want to move on again. by traveling like this, you suspend all experience; the present ceases to be a reality: you might just as well be dead. the traveler on foot, on the other hand, lives constantly in the present. for him traveling and arrving are one and the same thing: he arrives somewhere with every step he makes. he experiences the present moment with his eyes, his ears and the whole of his body. at the end of his journey he feels a delicious physical weariness. he knows that sound, satisfying sleep will be his: the just reward of all true travelers.

Directions: For this part you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Which Mode of Travel Do You like? You should write no less than 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

  2. 有的人喜欢自己独立行动(travelling on ones own)

With the general standard of living improving and the working week becoming shorter, more and more people are able to make a holiday trip to places of interest. While many like to join package tours fro convenience, I prefer to travel on my own.

I like travelling on may own not only because it costs much less but because it gives a great degree of independence and freedom. Travelling on my own, Im my own boss; and can decide when to start on my way, where to linger a little longer and which spot can be skipped over to save energy or time for another spot. I can always adjust my plan. On the contrary, in a package tour youre deprived of as much freedom as in a military base. At the sound of the whistle, you have to jump up from a sound sleep and, with heavy-lidded eyes, hurry to the gathering place where you are collected and counted to board a coach. At the sight

of the little flag waving, you must immediately take yourself away from the scenes you are marveling at and follow the guide whose sole interest is to cover all spots according to him strict schedule, regardless of the weather or your health condition.

True, you may encounter inconveniences if you travel inpidually, for instance, getting accommodations for the night and finding a place for meals. But nothing can be compared with the freedom which is vital to a person who takes a holiday trip mainly to escape from constraints of his routine life.
