论文摘要:从我国各个高等院校本科和研究生课程的设置中,已显露出逐步重视专业英语教学、重视学生英语交流能力培养的趋势。交通工程专业英语必须结合交通工程专业的培养目标,为我国的交通工程相关工作部门培养能够运用英语进行专业交流的人才。

目前许多大学本科院校普遍重视基础英语学习,专业英语教学比较薄弱。在教育部在2001年4号文件《关于加强高等学校本科教学工作提高教学质量的若干意见》中提出力争在三年内,外语教学课程要达到所开课程的5%-10%的推动下,各所大学本科院校都积极开展外语教学建设,推出一些双语教学课程。从我国各个高等院校本科和研究生课程的设置中,已显露出逐步重视专业英语教学、重视学生英语交流能力培养的趋势。结合交通工程专业的培养目标,则交通工程专业英语的教学应置于我国改革开放日益深入、加入世界相关组织和参与国际交流的大形势下,为我国的交通工程相关工作部门培养能够运用英语进行专业交流的人才。

一、交通工程专业英语教师要求

既然交通工程专业英语是以英语讲解交通工程专业知识,那么,对教师的要求就与普通英语和普通交通工程专业课对教师的要求存在较大的区别。目前国内对交通工程专业英语教师没有任何任职资格标准。所以,学校在选拔交通工程专业英语教师时,产生良莠不齐现象。虽然,教学大纲中要求专业英语课应由专业教师担任,但在实际教学中,有的学校是由专业教师担任,多数学校则是由一般英语教师担任。一般英语教师很少精通专业知识,对教材中涉及到的专业知识和专业背景知识很难讲深讲透。概括地说,交通工程专业英语的教师首先必须具有扎实的交通工程专业理论功底,其次必须具有运用英语进行交通工程专业课教学的能力。这也是对交通工程专业英语教师最基本的要求。

第一、教师必须具备全面的交通工程专业知识和专业课程教学的经验,了解交通工程专业的最新发展态,并且在本专业某一方面有较深入的研究或独到的见解。

第一、专业英语的教学内容应该说是越新越好,内容力争追赶国内外最新的专业知识和前沿热点。鉴于此,我认为,大学本科生的专业英语教材可以考虑选用国外同专业大一或大二的基础课教材,而研究生的专业英语教材可以考虑选用国外同专业大四或研究生的专业基础课教材。

第二、大学本科生专业英语的教学内容还应该兼顾传统内容与现代内容、基础知识与前沿热点的关系,使学生在有限的教学时间内,锻炼出一种能够终生受用的专业英语应用能力,在原文教科书或著作中最大限度地获取本学科发展的动态、新的学说、方法和理论。

第三、如果有可能,教育部可以组织有关人员编写大学本科和研究生各个专业的专业外语教学指导纲要,以便于各个高校做好专业外语教学工作。

三、交通工程专业英语学生的要求

有些学校过于强调国家四、六级英语考试的通过率,对交通工程专业英语学习成果没有硬指标要求,并且课时安排越来越少,个别学院甚至将其安排成选修课。高层教学管理层面上的目标不明确,导致制度和措施上的不重视,大大挫败了学生的积极性。
