Thanksgiving is a special holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada. It is a time when people come together with their friends and family to give thanks for all the blessings in their lives. In this lesson, we will learn more about the history and traditions of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving has its roots in a harvest festival that was celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621. The Pilgrims were a group of English settlers who arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in the early 17th century. They faced many hardships in their new home, but with the help of the Native Americans, they were able to survive and thrive.
The first Thanksgiving feast was held in November 1621, to celebrate the successful harvest. The Pilgrims invited the Native Americans who had helped them, and together they enjoyed a meal that included turkey, corn, and pumpkin. This feast is considered the first Thanksgiving.
Over the years, Thanksgiving became an important holiday in the United States. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday, to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Today, Thanksgiving is a time for Americans to give thanks for their blessings and to spend time with their loved ones.
One of the most iconic symbols of Thanksgiving is the turkey. It is traditional to have a roasted turkey as the main dish for Thanksgiving dinner. Other popular dishes include mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Many families also watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which features giant balloons and floats.
In addition to the food and festivities, Thanksgiving is also a time for reflection and gratitude. Many people take the opportunity to volunteer and help those in need. Some families go around the table and share what they are thankful for. It is a time to appreciate the good things in life and to show gratitude to others.
Overall, Thanksgiving is a time of joy, gratitude, and togetherness. It is a time to reflect on our blessings and to appreciate the love and support of our friends and family. Whether it is through a big feast or a small gathering, Thanksgiving is a special holiday that brings people closer and reminds us of what truly matters in life.

Lesson 16 Happy Thanksgiving!
Let’s do it! What festival do people celebrate in this song?
Where did Jenny go on Thanksgiving Day?
