I have always been fascinated by the idea of having a pen pal from another country. The thought of connecting with someone from a different culture and background through letters is truly exciting to me. So, when I had the opportunity to join a pen pal program at school, I jumped at the chance.
I was matched with a girl named Maria from Spain. We started writing letters to each other and quickly discovered that we had a lot in common despite our different upbringings. We both loved reading, cooking, and exploring new places. Through our letters, I learned so much about Spanish culture and traditions, and I shared with her my own experiences growing up in the United States.
As our correspondence continued, our friendship grew stronger. We started exchanging small gifts and trinkets to remind each other of our respective countries. Maria sent me a beautiful hand-painted fan from Spain, while I sent her a jar of peanut butter, a popular American snack that she had never tried before.
After a year of writing letters back and forth, we finally had the opportunity to meet in person when Maria came to visit the United States. It was an incredible experience to finally see each other face to face after months of exchanging letters. We spent a week together exploring my hometown, trying new foods, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
